What a pleasure it was to welcome a coterie of young professionals with a proclivity for the finer things in life. For Bistro Menil’s first ever special event, chef Greg Martin partnered with Houston Grand Opera’s Young Patrons Circle to host a happy hour soirée in the sophisticated yet comfortable ambiance of the 10-month-old restaurant.
With decor that included fresh cut flowers on every table, the ambiance was prime for opera buffs to chat about HGO’s upcoming season, which includes Puccini’s “Tosca,” Mozart’s popular comedy “The Marriage of Figaro” and the continuation of Wagner’s Ring Cycle with “Siegfried.”
The heroes of this night? The trio of passed appetizers that included jamón serrano wrapped on house-made breadsticks, bite-size roulades of chicken ballottine and tomato bruschetta, alongside glasses of Champagne Delamotte, Miraval Rose 2014 and Sierra Nevada beer.
While most of our guests prattled on around the bar area, some spilled onto the dining room for tête-à-têtes with their peers.
